Do all of the Maricopa colleges have the same policies/procedures?
There are common policies throughout the District but each college is independently accredited, operates by itself and can have different ways of doing business. Students should review our catalog which includes our policies and procedures.

Does CGCC have athletic programs?
Yes. We have men’s baseball, basketball, soccer, and golf, and women’s volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer and golf.

Do students have to attend orientations?
Although it is not mandatory for students to attend new student orientations, they are strongly encouraged to do so in order to better prepare them for academic success. There are specific orientations such as international, nursing and aviation which are required. Individual departments should be contacted for more information. BPC/CIS Self-paced courses have class orientations in the computer lab the first week of classes. Some e-learning classes have special class orientations.

How can a student get involved in campus life?
There are various options available for students to participate in student life activities and events. The Office of Student Life and Leadership offers club organizations, service learning opportunities, volunteer projects, leadership development and other alternatives.

What are CGCC’s regular hours of operation?
General campus hours are 5 am to 10 pm. Pecos Enrollment Services are Monday-Thursday, 7 am to 7 pm, and Fridays 8 am to 5 pm. Hours for specific academic divisions vary as well as for those at the Williams and Sun Lakes locations. All locations are closed on Fridays during the summer.

Where can students find information about the course registration process?
Students have five different registration options including on-line, walk-in, operator assisted, computer assisted and by mail. Contact Enrollment Services at each of our three locations and/or visit our web site.

Can a student access transcripts online?
Yes. Students can view their unofficial transcripts and request official transcripts be sent to other institutions.

What can a student do if a class is canceled?
Students can speak with an advisor and attempt to find other sections for the same class. If there are no other sections, a student can take a class with a higher content if the prerequisites are met. See Advisement section below for contacts.
Advisement
Can a high school student take a class?
High schools have dual enrollment programs which are available for students to receive credit at both high school and college. Students should contact their high school counselors. Additionally, under age students who are not dual enrolled should complete the under age application and follow the steps for enrolling.

Do students need to see an advisor?
All students are encouraged to meet with an advisor each semester. Degree requirements do change at times. Students must see an advisor if enrolling in English, math, or reading classes.

Does CGCC have GED classes and/or testing?
CGCC does not offer GED classes and/or GED testing. Testing locations and other information can be obtained through contacting the AZ Department of Education or by visiting their web site. It is not necessary to have a GED to enroll at CGCC or any other Maricopa Community College. Contact our Advisement Office for more information.

Testing
Where can a student find the schedule for placement testing?
Placement tests are available at both the Pecos and Williams Campuses. Students should call the Testing Center for specific times.

How do students apply for financial aid?
To apply for federal financial aid as well as some scholarships, students need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Is it too late to apply for financial aid?
It is never too late to apply for financial aid. Although some deadlines may have passed to be eligible for some funds, the Financial Aid Office continues to award students throughout the award year.

Who determines appropriate accommodations for students?
The Disability and Services office determines appropriate accommodations. Dr. Scott Silberman, CGCC faculty and faculty liaison to Special Services, also reviews DRS files and recommends accommodations.

Do all students with disabilities need to register with the DRS office?
No. However, if a student elects not to register, he may be denied accommodations.
Does an instructor have the right to know what type of disability a student has if an accommodation is requested?
No. Students do not have to inform the faculty member about their disability; they only need to inform the faculty about their accommodations.

How can a student find out about refunds?
Refunds for canceled or dropped courses are not issued automatically. Students should call the Fiscal Office for details about obtaining their refund.

When are financial aid checks ready for release?
Financial aid checks begin to be mailed approximately 7-10 days before the start of each semester and after that, on a daily basis as they are printed.

Learning/Tutoring Center
Do students need to be enrolled in a course at CGCC to receive free tutoring?
Students must be enrolled and regularly attending the course (s) in which you are requesting tutoring services.

Do students need to make appointments to see tutors?
The Learning Center offers “drop-in” tutoring (no appointment necessary) for math and science, the Writing Center, ESL and Spanish. Appointment based tutoring is available for subjects such as accounting, statistics, economics, computer programming, aviation and nutrition.

Library
Do I need a library card to check out books or to use the computers?
Yes. A library card is needed to check out books. For current students, the CGCC ID is the library card, and the number on the back needs to be scanned into the Library computer before books can be checked out. Community borrowers need to obtain a Community Borrowers library card to check out CGCC books. A card is not needed to use the computers in the library.

Can anyone use the library?
Yes. Anyone 18 and over may use the Library. If younger, a parent or guardian must accompany the individual.
Is it open weekends?
Yes. The Library is open Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm during the traditional school year. It is not open on Saturdays during the summer or when classes are not in session. The Library is closed on Sundays.
College Safety
Do students and employees need ID cards and badges?
Yes. Everyone is encouraged to carry their identification badges with them at all times. They are required for library and fitness center access, and they also help obtain student discounts at local area businesses. ID cards can be obtained from the College Safety Office at the Pecos Campus, or the Aviation and Technology Center at the Williams Campus. The first card is free and can be received after tuition and fees have been paid. Replacement cards are $5 and can be purchased from the Fiscal Office.

Where can students/staff park?
Students may park in any space except for those marked as visitors, handicapped, maintenance, employees, no parking and any area with a red or yellow curb. Faculty and staff can park in spaces marked for employees as well as in any open unmarked spaces at the Pecos Campus. The Williams and Sun Lakes locations are more restrictive, and you will need to contact the College Safety at these locations for specific parking instructions.
Do staff/students need a parking decal?
At the Pecos Campus, parking decals are encouraged while at the Williams Campus they are required. All parking decals must be renewed each year.
Where can staff/students obtain parking decals?
Students, faculty and staff members who operate a motor vehicle on campus must register their vehicle with the College Safety Department. Decals can be obtained at the College Safety Office, Bldg M105, at the Pecos Campus and at the ATC Bldg’s South Entrance of the Williams Campus.
