All Chandler-Gilbert campuses are currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.  In-person tutoring has been suspended at this time.  To help provide support for CGCC courses, access to online tutoring services through Brainfuse, a free on-demand tutoring service, has been extended to all students (previously only available for online and hybrid courses).  Please note that you may only use Brainfuse for assistance with Chandler-Gilbert courses in which you are currently enrolled.  

 

A new option called Brainfuse Tutor Match has been added to allow you to work remotely with CGCC tutors from each of the”drop-in” Math, Science and Writing Centers.  (Please note: not all tutors will be available at all times; Tutor Match will show which tutors are available once you have chosen a subject.  You can then select a session time from the list of available tutors.)  Students also have access to the Live Help option (through Brainfuse staff) for times that CGCC tutors are not available for pre-scheduled sessions. As much as possible, it is highly recommended that you utilize CGCC tutors via Brainfuse Tutor Match because they are more familiar with CGCC coursework, instructor expectations, and assignments.

Spring 2020  ​LC Science Workshop Schedule

Workshop I: "Elemental" Math: the Math of Chemistry

This workshop is designed to provide review and practice of the basic math skills required in chemistry classes. Topics covered will include significant digits, scientific notation, conversions and dimensional analysis, and word problems.

Workshop II: What's in a Name? A Review of Chemical Nomenclature

This workshop is designed to provide review and practice with naming of chemical compounds. Topics covered will include categories of compounds, rules of nomenclature, polyatomic ions, and chemical formulas.

Workshop III: Balancing Act: Chemical Reactions and Equations

 
This workshop will discuss and review the different kinds of chemical reactions covered in Fundamental Chemistry (CHM130). Topics covered will include identifying types of reactions, balancing equations, and how to use the activity series and solubility rules.

Workshop IV: Moles and Chemistry, Part I: Moles and Conversions

This workshop will focus on the chemical concept of the mole and its use in chemical calculations. Topics covered will include the definition of the mole, molar mass, mole conversions, and empirical/molecular formulas.

Workshop V: Moles and Chemistry, Part II: Stoichiometry

In this workshop, students will review and practice using molar ratios from chemical equations to relate quantities of substances.  Topics covered will include using balanced equations to find molar ratios, stoichiometry calculations, limiting reactants and percent yield.

        We do NOT rent calculators to students for the semester. Calculator rental is provided by the Mathematics Division.  Please see their website for current procedures.  However, we do have calculators that may be checked out for use IN THE LEARNING CENTER ONLY. You will need to provide a photo ID.  For assistance, please ask a tutor or greeter.
