Students who want to make a difference by nurturing or teaching children and young adults will find excellent opportunities in Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s Teacher Education Program.
Small classes are taught by expert faculty to ensure that students receive quality instruction on the latest, cutting-edge teaching methodologies and childcare techniques.
Many of our faculty are specialists in their fields with a variety of PreK-12 teaching experiences.
Through active, engaged and integrative learning, students gain foundational knowledge, which is applied in local childcare and PreK-12 classrooms each semester. Students network and collaborate with professionals in the field to gain essential hands-on experiences through service learning in a wide variety of environments. Graduates of our program acquire real knowledge and experience in the classroom, effectively preparing them for the workforce and future careers.
Teacher Education Degrees
CGCC's Teacher Education Program offers many choices for students pursuing a career in K-12 teaching. Transfer pathways are available for elementary (Grades 1-8) and secondary education (Grades 7-12), as well as special education (Grades K-12).
The program emphasizes the roles of students as future teachers and education professionals, and rigorous coursework worthy of Arizona's school children. Course work includes foundation courses and requirements for transfer and Arizona teacher certification.
Students learn the principles of teaching and learning and the spectrum of diversity in U.S. schools, and specialized curriculum and instruction topics such as children's literature, math, exceptionality and teaching English language learners.
Application of course concepts occurs in a series of field experiences in which students are placed in local K-12 classrooms.
