Circulation Policies

Using your CGCC Library

CGCC students and employees may obtain library privileges by presenting their CGCC ID card at the Circulation desk. Users are responsible for any use of their ID card, unless reported lost. Student ID cards are valid at all Maricopa Community Colleges.

Community members are welcome to use the library resources at any time. Maricopa County residents can obtain a Community Borrowers card by registering at https://admissions.maricopa.edu/CreateID/  to get an MEID number and presenting a valid photo ID and something with their current address at the Circulation desk.

Late Materials

The Chandler-Gilbert Library Charges fines for late reserve materials:

Reserve materials    .50 per/hr.

Materials automatically go into Lost status if not returned within:

Books          28 days after the due date
Non Books   14 days after the due date

Lost Materials

The Chandler-Gilbert Library charges fair market cost for the replacement of any lost item, plus a $10.00 non-refundable Processing Fee.

Damaged Materials

The Chandler-Gilbert Library charges for the cost of any repair required on material that has been damaged while charged out to patrons. Fees will be determined by the Technical Services Librarian.


  • Classroom spaces in the library are designated for Critical Research instruction.

  • Faculty wishing to schedule a Critical Research class should contact the library faculty listed on the Critical Research page for more information.

  • Depending on availability, independent research space may be scheduled following a Critical Research class. Please contact the library faculty listed on the Critical Research page for more information.

  • Faculty wishing to schedule a computer lab space for another purpose should work through their divisions.


​Closing Procedures

  • Closing procedures begin 30 minutes before the stated closing time. For example, if the library closes at 9:00pm, then closing procedures start at 8:30 pm.

  • Anyone entering the library during this time will be notified that the library is closing.

  • Because clocks may vary throughout the library, the clock behind the Circulation Desk is designated as the official clock.

  • Circulation/Reserve Desk services will end 15 minutes prior to closing. All materials must be checked out and returned before this time.

  • Computer usage, including printing, must be completed 15 minutes prior to closing.

Library Posting Policy:

  1. The Library Bulletin Board outside the Copy Room (L115) is for posting of both Library and non-library materials.

  2. Materials to be posted must not exceed 8.5 by 11 inches, unless approved ahead of time.

  3. Materials must be approved by a permanent library staff member and must be stamped with the requested posting date, a removal date and the staff member's initials.  The removal date will be two weeks from the posting date unless otherwise approved.

  4. The Bulletin Board has been designated as the location for non-library postings in the Library.  Please do not post notices, etc. elsewhere in the Library.  No posting of materials is permitted on the Rotunda walls.

​Library Cards

Student ID Cards can be obtained at the Coyote Center. They are also the student's Library Card and are valid for the semester they are enrolled. These cards are required for checkout.

Accessing the Library Databases from Off Campus - (new process as of 01/22/13)

Your MEID is used to access CGCC Library services such as the article databases from off campus. The same way you would log into My.Maricopa or Canvas.
If you obtained a student ID card prior to 9/9/09 the student Id number located on the back of the card will no longer give you access to the databases, New student ID cards are now available.

Library Study Room Policy

The Study Room Policy strives to ensure access for Chandler-Gilbert Community College students to our Library study rooms. The study rooms are for the use of CGCC Students for the following: 

  • Groups to work on collaborative projects
  • Students viewing missed video(s) for class
  • Individuals studying

Reserving a Study Room

  • Advanced reservation:
    • Students can make a reservation up to one (1) week prior by contacting Circulation Services.  Call 480.857.5102 or stop at the desk during business hours.
  • Same-day reservation:
    • Students can self-reserve the day of use by signing their name in the available time slots on the sign-up sheet posted outside the study room door.
  • Reservations are limited to a two (2) hour period.  If no one wants the room at the end of the two (2) hour period, the person(s) in the room may continue to use the room until someone else needs it.
  • Circulation Services staff will post the day's reservations on the sign-up sheet outside the study room door.  Students must sign these sheets when they use the rooms. Sheets should not be removed.

 Using a Study Room

  • The library is not responsible for anything left in the study rooms.
  • An individual using a study room will be asked to move to another area in the library if the room is needed for a study group.
  • Whiteboard markers and erasers are available at the Circulation Services desk. Please erase whiteboard and return markers and erasers to the Circulation Services desk.
  • Beverages in spill-proof or leak-proof containers are permitted. Food is not permitted. Please put all trash in the wastebasket before leaving the study room.
  • Be respectful of other library users and minimize noise. The study rooms are not sound-proof.
  • The study rooms are for academic purposes. If you are using the room for non-academic purposes, you may be asked to move so others may use the room.
  • Children cannot be unattended.*

Reserve Room Materials

  • Reserve materials are located behind the Circulation Desk.
  • Reserve materials are for In House Use only.
  • The library catalog can be searched to see what has been placed on reserve.
  • The materials can be found under Course Reserves.
  • A CGCC student picture ID card is required to check out items on Reserve.

Faculty may place library materials or their own personal materials on Reserve so they will be accessible to students for classroom assignments. Faculty owned materials will be checked out to the faculty’s class members only.  Library-owned materials will be checked out to MCCCD students and MCCCD employees for the Reserve Room check-out time and place (in-Library, etc.).  The Library does not purchase college textbooks to be put on Reserve.  Please allow 72 hours for materials to be put on Reserve.
