FAQs for Spring 2020

Is the Library open?

  • The Library building on Pecos campus and the Library on Williams campus are closed temporarily. We will open again when the MCCCD libraries re-open.
  • Library faculty and staff are still available to assist you remotely/online.
  • To get research help, please use the Ask a Librarian online service for now.โ€‹


How can I get assistance?

  • Faculty should contact Library Faculty directly with questions about instruction:
    • Contact Kim Chuppa-Cornell with questions about incorporating Critical Research Instruction into your remote teaching.

What do I do about materials I borrowed?

  • All borrowed materials will have their due dates automatically extended to the end of the semester, May 7th. 
  • Please contact circ@cgc.edu with any questions.

Where can I access my course textbook?

  • Since the Library is closed, there is no physical access to our reserves textbooks.
  • Follett has partnered with RedShelf and other publishers to provide free access to up to 7 ebook textbooks. Try searching by textbook's ISBN to determine if your course's textbook is available through this program. (Library staff found several CGCC course textbooks available in the service.) 
  • How to create an account and additional information can be found at https://studentresponse.redshelf.com/

Can I place a hold on materials?

  • Students, faculty, and staff can still place holds on materials, however due to the library closures, materials will not be available until after the MCCCD libraries re-open.

Will I still be able to get books from other libraries?

  • We will not be filling inter-library loans at this time. If you currently have an item that is from another library system, please contact circ@cgc.edu with any questions.


Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get my Library Card?

  • Your Student ID Card or Employee ID Card acts as your library card.
  • ID/Library cards are issued at the Coyote Center on the Pecos Campus and the Williams campus, Public Safety in Bluford Hall.
  • Library cards are required to check out materials from the CGCC libraries including reserve materials.
Your ID/library card will also allow you to check out items from the other Maricopa Community College Libraries.

How do I log into library resources from off campus?

Use your MEID and password (same as My Maricopa and Canvas) to log into library resources such as the article databases and book catalog.

Are there any library apps for my iPhone, iPad or Android device?

Some database vendors are creating apps for mobile devices. EBSCOHost, which is a major vendor for quite a few of our databases has a new app available for download. Here are the directions:


EBSCOHost Mobile app for 
iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad Application 

Get the App

The iOS version of the EBSCOhost App is available as a free download from iTunes at the following link:
Authenticate the App
After installing the app on your device, it must be authenticated from the EBSCOhost or EBSCO Discovery Service interface.
To authenticate the EBSCOhost app:
  1. Log into EBSCOhost.
  2. Click the EBSCOhost iPhone and Android Applications link at the bottom of the page and enter an email address which you can access from your device.
    An email with an authentication key is sent to you.
  3. Access the email from your device and click the link found in the email to authenticate the application.
    You have 24 hours to access the key from your device to authenticate the app. If the key is not used within 24 hours, it expires and you will need a new key.
