CGCC student Kolopa Afalava knows that her anxiety over math and her goal to one day become an accountant are at odds with one another, but she says she’s not going to let that stop her from achieving her goal.

“I’ve always wanted to be an accountant – the order and precision of accounting appeals to me,” Afalava said.  “Algebra was a major roadblock though, until I started going to the CGCC tutoring center.”

CGCC’s tutoring center has made all the difference in changing her attitude towards math and science, Aflava said.

“The tutors are so helpful and patient,” Afalava, a Queen Creek resident, said. “They explain the concepts in a way that is easy to understand and they really make me feel like I can be successful.”

CGCC Faculty, Family Recognized as Chandler/Gilbert YMCA Family of the Year

For Chandler-Gilbert Community College communications faculty Anthony Braaten and his family, the Chandler YMCA has become more than just a way to give back to the community.
