Maricopa Community Colleges invites you to attend a live, virtual talk by guest speaker and New York Times Best-selling author Clint Smith as he discusses his latest book, How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America. This text examines the far-reaching history and ongoing effects of slavery in the U.S. and other places by analyzing historical sites, documents, and personal interviews.

The book has been hailed by the New York Times as “...an extraordinary contribution to the way we understand ourselves,” and Time Magazine has stated that “Smith forces us to reconsider what we think we know about American history.”  And now you have the opportunity to hear his powerful message from the author himself!
