Chandler-Gilbert Community College hosted the inaugural AI and Drone Discovery Summer Camp for high school students in June. The camp was a dynamic, hands-on exploration of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and drone technology.
Hosted by our acclaimed AI faculty members and instructors, during this four-day camp, 40 students from East Valley high schools enjoyed building their own drones and then racing them through an obstacle course at CGCC’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Training Center on our Williams campus, among other exciting activities.
“What makes this experience truly transformational is the National Science Foundation-funded partnership between Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Miami Dade College and Houston Community College through the AI Entry Pathways project,” said Gabriela Rosu, Dean of Instruction at CGCC. “Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the workforce, and our students deserve access to that future. As part of the National Applied AI Consortium initiative, our collaboration is helping enhance access to AI education by creating affordable, scalable pathways from high school to associate and bachelor's degrees in AI.”
We hope to grow the AI Discovery Summer Camp through the remaining years of the NSF grant, expanding to 50 students in 2026 and 60 in 2027.
