On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the Nursing Department held its second Nursing Bootcamp, welcoming nearly 70 students. Open to all current nursing students, including those beginning the program this fall, Nursing Bootcamp drew students from all four nursing blocks, from incoming Block 1 students to returning Bootcamp participants.

Students rotated through sessions including test-taking strategies, study and NCLEX binder organization, medication dosage calculation, pharmacology review, open skills lab and a hands-on skills relay. Student Support Services and Counseling Services also participated, connecting students with resources available to support them throughout the semester.

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with test-taking strategies frequently identified as one of the most valuable sessions. Students also appreciated opportunities to ask questions, connect with faculty and develop study tools they plan to use during the semester. Some were already requesting more hands-on activities—and even a longer Bootcamp next time!

Faculty also value Bootcamp as an opportunity to connect with students in a relaxed setting before the semester begins.

“There’s something really special about getting to spend time with students before the pace of the semester picks up,” said Block 1 faculty member Rachel Vogel. “It gives us a chance to answer questions, get to know our new students, reconnect with returning students, and build some excitement for the semester ahead.”

The Nursing Department thanks Grand Canyon University, one of CGCC’s concurrent enrollment partners, for supporting the event. Nursing faculty and staff worked together to make the day possible and look forward to continuing Bootcamp as a fun and supportive way to kick off a new semester.
