Initial Advising

Welcome, new Coyotes! If you’re starting college for the first time, our first-year academic advisors are ready to help you start strong and stay on track.

New, first-time college students, follow our Enrollment Steps to complete your Pre-Advisement Workshop and Initial Advisement requirements.

Submit the Pre-Advisement Workshop Registration Form.
Access the Online Workshop: Complete the self-paced activities in Canvas.

Meet with an Academic Advisor during drop-in hours at the Coyote Center Building, Pecos Campus, Aug. 10–28.

NOTE: Students transferring from another college or university and who are new to CGCC do not complete Initial Advisement. Follow these steps to transfer to CGCC and meet with a Field of Interest advisor instead.

Use the Registration Planner provided in Initial Advisement to search the class schedule.
Add classes in your Student Center to enroll.
Students under 18 years old will need to submit the MCCCD Concurrent Enrollment for Under 18 Students.

Attend a Group Advising & Registration Event

Event: Coyote Kickoff On-Campus
Location: Pecos Campus | Coyote Center
Dates & Times:
- Wednesdays (August 12th, August 19th)
  - 9:00 am until 5:00 pm
- Thursdays (August 13th, August 20th)
  - 9:00 am until 5:00 pm
Check-in will conclude 1 hour prior to closing, or earlier, if capacity is reached

Event Details

First-come, first-served. Wait times will vary!
Students should plan to spend at least 2 hours at the event, not including wait time.
Bring a government-issued ID and any transcripts/test scores.
Parents are asked to wait in the lobby due to space limitations.
