Tutoring FAQs

Learning Centers are fun, supportive places where registered CGCC students can reinforce what they learn in the classroom, get free tutoring and other resources.

While our Learning Centers are set up to provide support in math, science, and writing, we also offer tutoring in other subjects by appointment. Those subjects include accounting, computer programming, and American Sign Language.

You’re eligible to receive tutoring and to use our Learning Centers free of charge for any CGCC course in which you are currently enrolled.

For your convenience, we have Learning Centers at both the Pecos and Williams campuses, as well as Virtual Centers online.

Our Learning Centers are open during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Our hours vary by subject and location.

No. Our Learning Centers are open to students on a drop-in basis and you can get as much help as you need in math, science and writing during business hours. Appointment-based tutoring is limited to two hours per week per course.

To ensure a successful tutoring experience, please review our policies before you visit the Learning Center.

If we are not tutoring another student, and time permits, we will help you to the best of our ability. But if you are new to computers, you may find it beneficial to work with the computer lab, where trained computer technicians can assist you.

While we are happy to work with you to understand and apply the rules of grammar and punctuation, we will not edit your papers.

At the Learning Centers, we can answer your questions and help you better understand all levels of mathematics, statistics, physics, anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, microbiology and organic chemistry.

No, we do not provide testing services. Please contact the Computer Lab with questions regarding testing options.

We do have graphing calculators and copies of current textbooks to use while you’re in the Learning Center. We do not rent any items for use outside of the center.

If you need to rent a calculator for the semester, you can check one out by using the Calculator Rental Agreement Form.

CGCC does not provide private tutoring services for hire. For your convenience, we’ve compiled a list of tutors who provide private tutoring off campus. For a copy of this list visit or email the center. CGCC is not responsible for any of the private tutors listed and cannot guarantee the quality of tutoring. Costs and meeting places are your responsibility and may not be held on campus.
