There’s a lot you can do to get involved

New Adventures in Learning relies entirely on volunteers to bring fun, fascinating and informative classes to seniors. We’re always looking for enthusiastic people with knowledge to share, or a helping hand behind the scenes.

Be a presenter

Our volunteer presenters create and lead all of our classes. If you have in-depth knowledge of a particular subject and are passionate about it, we’d love to hear from you. Our class formats include traditional classroom-based sessions, roundtable discussions, computer labs, and field trips.

  • Traditional classroom-based sessions range from strictly lecture to considerable student participation. They typically span anywhere from one to six sessions, each lasting 60 to 90 minutes, and may involve as few as 10 or as many as 80 students.
  • Roundtable classes are typically a single session of about 20 participants. The presenter acts as a discussion leader, asking questions and guiding discussion around the topic he or she has chosen.
  • Computer classes are taught in a lab equipped with 24 internet-connected PCs that use Windows 7 and Office 2013. Volunteer aides are on hand during all computer classes to assist the presenter and to work one-on-one with students.
  • Off-site classes are half-day excursions that provide students the opportunity to visit and learn about interesting sites in the greater Phoenix area.

Class location

All classes, with the exception of off-site classes, are held at the Sun Lakes Center at CGCC or held virtually by ZOOM.
